Meet Elizabeth. Shes gorgeous isn’t she? Well, shes my second cousin. <3 She and her mom drove all the way from Michigan to have me take her senior photos. GAHHH, I am SO glad they did. I honestly hadn’t seen her since she was about 5 years old, but her easy smile, spunky personality and blond hair were things I remember well. All of those features are still things I found myself to be drawn to even as she is a grown young woman now.
We spent our time split between downtown Huntsville and finished up our time at Five Oaks Farm. It sprinkled on us pretty much the whole session, but fortunately it didn’t get us too wet! At the end of the evening, they got in their car and headed home, and no more than 10 minutes later the heavens opened up and it started POURING!!!
I personally love how these turned out. I hope you do too. <3

This senior session was so much fun!!!
Emily is so full of life and exploring downtown Huntsville with a camera in hand was a blast. I love documenting someones personality, and Emily has so much sweet spunk and energy. Three outfits and a lot of walking later, we ended her session on Five Oaks Farm with tall grass and a beautiful sunset. I don’t know how it could have been more perfect!

So… The voting has started for the 2019 Shoot & Share Competition, and I am just NOW getting around to blogging how I did LAST year. lol.
I know… I am SO behind. It’s comical really. But things that aren’t needed for survival often get pushed down the priority list. I have just accepted it. ;-)
BUT
I need to document this journey, because something amazing happened last year!
Because in this international competition, where 412,379 images were submitted, I ended up in the top 100 family photographers AND in the top 100 for children’s photography as well!!!
I was seriously freaking out when I found out!!!
So here goes. I submitted 50 images, and out of those 50, 35 made it in the top 30% or above!!! <3

Laughter is truly good for the soul. This family knows how to laugh and to love well, and that joy made it such an enjoyable time together. We stood outside visiting until the stars came out. I can’t help but smile as I sort through and edit the images from their session. It is taking a bit longer than usual, but only because there are SO MANY beautiful and genuine moments. Their gallery is going to be HUGE! lol
Part of my job, and what honestly makes me really good at what I do, is that I understand how important it is to watch and notice the details. The way a husband kisses the top of his wife’s hair. The way a child wrinkles their nose when they smile at their sibling. The way a toddler rests their hand in the same spot in their mamas hair every time they are picked up.
You know what I noticed on this gorgeous Autumn evening? The way these sisters love each other. Pretty much every single family shoot I do, I see that adoration and beauty that beams from children towards their parents that is then reflected back at them. It’s my favorite part to be honest. But rarely do I see siblings with that same type of relationship. These two girls have something really special, and I want their parents to remember this beautiful season of their lives forever. Every single detail.

I absolutely love it when clients come back to me over and over again!
Two years ago, Mathew and Cindy drove their oldest daughter all the way down from North Carolina a day early (before Space Camp started) for me to take Rosie’s senior photos. We had an amazing time and we all agreed, the photos turned out wonderfully! I was over the moon when Cindy messaged me a few months ago asking if I had availability to fit Ava in to do her senior photos.
Let me just say this for a minute… If you are willing to drive more than 4 hours to come and have your photos taken with me, I will MAKE time for you! lol. #justsayin

They drove here from Michigan! When his sweet mom messaged me asking if I had any openings, I was a little flattered and quite surprised! Bottom line. If you are willing to drive across multiple states to have me take your sons senior photos, I will MAKE time! lol
So then they arrived, and I meet this handsome young man. Since when did high school seniors start looking so put together and SHARP! He was laid back and chill with an easy smile and a fantastic sense of humor. We had a gorgeous evening and I got to shoot at a location that I am starting to think is just a little magical.
I get so sentimental when I do senior photos. My oldest is 9 and I know I am going to blink and it is all of the sudden going to be time for his own senior year. It’s going by way too fast. I wish there was a pause button or even better, rewind, because these “young years” are disappearing so quickly. I may be perpetually tired, (I haven’t slept all the way through the night in over 9 years), and I have a LOT on my to do list that never ends, but our life is so wonderfully simple right now. Nothing that can’t be fixed with sleep or food exists in our world, and there is so much beauty in that.
The thought of my kids leaving scares the crap out of me! lol. I am just reminded that my job is to prepare and equip, so that when they leave, they don’t just fly, they soar. Fortunately, I have a few more years to get used to the idea. In the mean time, I have no doubt that Seth will excel at just about anything he decides to pursue.

I have never done a sister session before… After this, I want ALL THE SISTERS!!! After chatting a bit I found out this was actually going to be a senior session/sister session. This gorgeous girl is graduating and she wanted to include her sisters in her photo shoot.

So often throughout the busier times of the year I don’t have time to THINK let alone go through the process of submitting my photos to any competitions or publications. Because I am so horribly neglectful during the busier months I try to make it a point to do so in the slower months. This is the first year I submitted to the Shoot & Share Photography Competition and I am super pleased with how these images placed!
A few stats about the competition: (because I am a nerd that way. lol)
- There were over 330,000 photos submitted
- Over 150,000 contributing artists
- 60,000,000 contest votes
- 159 countries were represented
I had NO idea what to expect and where I would rank on the international scale of so many talented photographers. I was a bit intimidated but I figured if I didn’t place at all I would just be quiet about it and not let anyone know I submitted anything in the first place. (just being honest. lol)
Out of 50 images that I submitted, I am excited to say that THIRTY of them won a badge!!! :-D
On to the RESULTS!!!
I had 3 images make it to the finalist round! This required that the images receive enough votes to make it to the top 3.5% of all the other images submitted. After the official results were released I found that these actually were closer to the top 1%. (YAY! Even better!!!)

Gena contacted me last year about family photos and we have desperately been trying to figure out a time that would work ever since! You see, Gena had gone back to school and was working her way through a 2 year Nursing program. After talking about MANY different dates, schools schedules changing and life just happening, she graduated (Whoot!!!) and we were able to finally make it happen! :-D
I had such a wonderful time with them and I am so glad to have gotten these family photos before her oldest leaves for college this coming year. <3

I love doing new things! There were so many firsts for me with this session and I had a blast doing them all.
Rosie has been to the US Space and Rocket Center Space Camp EIGHT TIMES! After learning that, I wasn’t surprised to hear that she want’s to be an astronaut some day. Every year at about this time, her dad has driven down from NC to bring her to Huntsville.
As she and her mom started talking about her senior year photos the idea came up to have them taken at the place that holds so many good memories and also represents what she is working so hard to achieve.
It is so much fun to step outside of my “normal” and flex some new skills! I can’t wait to share even more of these images with this fantastic family once I have the rest of the gallery completed. :-D
