Y’all. I am most definitely not an official “pet photographer”…
However
I am completely addicted to documenting relationships, and this right here is exactly that. <3 I get requests somewhat regularly from clients to see if it is OK to bring their pet along with them to their shoot. My answer? “If you consider them to be a part of your family, ABSOLUTELY bring them!”
I also don’t shoot family sessions the months of December and January. I do allow for time sensitive circumstances such as a newborn, maternity and end of life situations…
When Ben contacted me, he explained that Ripley didn’t have much time left and he desperately wanted to document this pup that he considers family. ” I don’t suspect he’ll be around in a few weeks as he has bad arthritis and potentially some internal issue.” It broke my heart and couldn’t imagine saying no! As I have sat here in this chair editing all of these images, I can hear Ben talking to Ripley all through the session, just like you would your best friend. What they have is something really special, and as sad as I am for their time together drawing to a close, I am so very glad that Ben realized, before it was too late, how valuable having images of those you love, truly is.
I think Ripley has a similar smile to Harrison Ford. ;-)

OH MY STARS!!!!
This sweet mama contacted me wondering if I would travel to Arab to document her sweet boy in the place he loves the most. He has the incredible privilege of being raised on a cattle farm, and I was so excited to get to document this little person in the place that will define his childhood in so many ways.
I arrived with an optimistic attitude towards the weather… Well, it started POURING! This was literally the only time I have ever had to cancel a session I was actively shooting and reschedule. I felt so bad (I know how much goes in to getting ready for photos, believe me!!!) but as I looked around their property with the rolling hills and green pastures… I had gotten some great shots, but we were wet, and I just knew it was what we needed to do.
I am quite pleased to report that round 2 was everything I dreamed it would be!
Sunshine, giggles, exploring, snuggles, squeeze hugs, a pony named Chester and a calf named Sally Sue. It was absolute perfection! This little boy is adored completely and the joy he exudes when he is romping around on the family land is something that needs to be bottled up and spread around everywhere. No cares, no concerns, just happiness that starts in his toes and beams out of his eyes.
There aren’t very many places in North Alabama where you can get a view of the sky like this. The sunset was amazing and this cute little farmer just made it that much better. <3

Ok, so funny story,
I send out a questionnaire to all of my clients before their session. It’s a way for me to find out what you really want out of your session, the colors, the environment you are envisioning, unique family dynamics and I also ask for a little “insider info” if you have kids so I can connect with them a little faster and make them feel comfortable.
So I got the questionnaire back around 3 weeks before their session, and was “skimming” through…
- Bringing their 2 dogs – Check!
- Dogs are huge – Check!
- Lists all of their names – Check! (I am HORRIBLE with names. More on that in a sec)
- Chewy has 23 thousand followers on Instagram – WOW! Check!
- “Can we use some of the photos on his IG account?” – Of course! Check!
I reply and say everything looks great and of course they can use images on Instagram!
Fast forward to the day of their session… I am actually READING their questionnaire again (Trying to commit their names to memory because I suck at remembering names. Shoot! I can’t remember my own kids names half the time!) and realize that it isn’t her husband that has 23k followers on IG but their 150# Newfoundland dog Chewy’s account! HA!
So long story short. I suck at names. I try, but it really is not my strength, and I am sorry, but at this point it probably will get worse not better. lol
So this is me, introducing Chewy, the 3 year old 150# Newfoundland Puppy, with over THIRTY TIMES as many followers than I do! lol <3
