Can you tell we had fun? No seriously! These 4 ladies were so full of joy and laughter, my face hurt from smiling by the end of their session. It wasn’t the “polite” laughing either. It was that laughter that comes from a deep seeded love that spilled over in to their hearts and bubbled out through their voices.
Often I hear it during a session. I do my best to create situations that inspire genuine emotions, but to be honest, it gets harder and harder as the kids get older. To have a 16, 10 and 8 year old show so much open love and affection for their mom, and to enjoy each other so completely, is gorgeous to observe. It was such a privilege to document this special time in their lives.
This is a love worth documenting.

Wana know what my FAVORITE part of my job is? Getting to see those intimate gorgeous “real” moments in the “in between”. Sure! I do an awful lot of directing, prompting, suggesting, and I have been know to reach out and move someones head a bit with my hands to get it in the perfect spot. lol. but all of that is just leading up to the beauty. The beauty is 100% not under my control. The moments are 100% a reflection of something that is already there. Unconditional love.
It’s breathtaking.
I never get tired of it… After almost 5 years of photographing families and processing thousands of images, it is still my absolute favorite part. Getting to see the kids light up when they look at their parents, and watching mom and dad’s hearts melt as they respond to the adoration their kids are lavishing on them.
It’s priceless.
This little guy just turned 1! His mama wanted to document these moments to celebrate him and his world. I honestly can’t imagine a better gift. He won’t remember the party or the gifts, but these will be his memories that he gets to look back on. Ones of family snuggles, daddy hugs, mommy kisses and a big brother that absolutely adores him.
It’s important.

Goodness! I have had the most amazing string of repeat clients back to back lately, and I am in complete heaven because of it!
There is NOTHING I take as a bigger compliment than for someone to go through a whole session with me, from the very beginning, (planning, prep, communication and styling) shoot the actual session, and then to the end, (editing, delivery, product selection and delivery) to then RETURN to me and do it again. It communicates complete satisfaction in a job well done. It is an investment in me and their appreciation and confidence in my work. This job is so personal. It is an expression of my heart and emotions for all the moments I wanted to make tangible with my own children, but was not able.
I want my images to be beautiful, yes… But more than that, I want them to help you relive a memory, so personal, that only you posses it. I want them to make you remember so well that you can smell their hair, hear their sounds, and feel their weight as you held them. Because that is what it really is about right? Photos hold so much value to us, because they enable us to make our memories tangible, so we don’t have to worry that the details and moments will be forgotten.

This family is one of my FAVORITES!!! They have been coming to me for 3 years now and I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed watching these boys grow.

My style has changed over the years, and their images just get sweeter every time they come to see me. I view it as such a privilege to be invited in to their lives, over and over again, and there is absolutely nothing that I take as a higher compliment. To trust me with these moments that are so fleeting and precious is not lost on me.
On another note, these two boys are the BEST big brothers! They were so careful and protective of their new baby, and it was the sweetest thing to watch.
Karen, you are severely outnumbered, but you are surrounded with boys that love you to pieces. God knew you would be an amazing “boy mom”. <3 <3 <3 (However, I am still praying you decide to have one more and it’s a girl! lol. How in the world do you slow time down!?!
It seems like just yesterday that I was taking this little boys newborn photos. <3
That was THREE years ago and now this precious boy is going to be a big brother!
The moments leading up to such a profound and beautiful change are so completely precious. It’s hard to appreciate it sometimes, through the haze of the physical discomfort of pregnancy, but these moments are worth relaxing in to. Every part of our lives shift when we bring a new little soul in to this world. Documenting “right now” before everything changes is such a beautiful way to look back and remember how beautiful every single stage of your growing family felt.

I met Melody a couple years ago in Hobby Lobby as we waited in the fabric line to get something cut. I looked down and she had the cutest little girls decked out the most gorgeous clothes! I asked here where they were from, and she confessed that they were samples that she had made for her boutique children’s clothing label Petticoat Patch. We talked the whole time we stood in line, exchanged business cards and have been friends ever since! lol
I was so happy when she asked me to take some photos of her with her youngest to commemorate his first birthday. Happy Birthday sweet boy.

Soooooo many things to say. Sooooo many photos. Sooooo much love.
Where do I even start?
I have had these images in my head for SOOOOO long! FINALLY the stars aligned and I can’t help but be over the moon for how they turned out. I love newborn and baby photography, but I also freaking love natural environments in the light of sunset. It’s just magical. For a year now, I have been dreaming up how I could photograph newborns and babies outside, but I knew I needed to do it in my way. I knew I needed to fill it with connection, and movement and emotion. I knew I needed to create something I had never seen before outside of my imagination.
When I was talking to Tori about styling this session, I think it went something like “So I will have a basket for your baby, and have you in a yellow dress with a really full skirt and then I will plop you in the middle of a field with tall grass and wild flowers!”. Thank goodness she said “Sounds good. I trust you.” Haha!
But seriously. I don’t know how I could love these any more… So I beg you. If you have a baby (Newborn all the way up to “not quite sitting up yet” age) and you want images like these, CALL ME!!! Lets make some magic in the golden light of sunset. <3

Why is it that mamas anticipate and mourn a baby’s first birthday? Why do we constantly weigh the excitement of what is to come (independence, growth, talking, walking, learning) against what will be lost. (snuggles, dependence, contentment, peek-a-boo, baby curls, teething)
Well, maybe you don’t, but I do… My own little one is 10 months old right now and I am trying to soak up every single second. It seems like when they turn 1, they are all of the sudden, on the go, and my baby, the one that has looked at me like I am the center of their universe, slips away just a little more every day. That baby is replaced with a toddler, full of wonder, excitement, independence and an insatiable desire to learn.
BUT
I LOVE BABIES! I have ALWAYS loved babies… Why do they have to grow up so FAST?!?! I am so incredibly excited for this next season of life that is about to be upon us. It will be the first time in over 10 years that I will have a bit more freedom to travel (without the kids), but this “baby season” has gone by in a blink, and I am sad. You would think that after 5 kids I would have gotten my fill. lol
My first year sessions are all about celebrating those milestones. Exploring, standing, spunk and following what they are interested in. This little guy was absolutely precious. If I could end all of my sessions in the water, I would. He had a blast and didn’t want to leave. <3
Happy birthday buddy. Just know that you are probably breaking your mamas heart just a little bit every day just because you are one day older. <3

It isn’t often that I get to include Grandma and Grandpa in a family shoot, but this sweet Mama really wanted to get some generational photos of the 4 most important men in her life.
I can’t help but feel incredibly sentimental when I look at these. I have quite a few cell phone shots of my kids interacting with their grandparents, but these photos made me pause. I think I may need to make time to document the generations for my own family. We currently live close to grandparents, and great grandparents so other than needing to “make time” for it, I really have no other excuse.
Lets be honest, getting ready for photos isn’t something that ANYONE looks forward to. (myself included) I mean, I personally have to find 7 different outfits that coordinate together, do 2 girls hair, make sure everyone is wearing matching socks (yes, that is a thing in my house) and get myself put together. (which is a whole other thing since I typically don’t “do” my hair) lol.
But these… documenting your visual history… it’s so worth it. <3

These moments, although uncomfortable, are so precious. When you are still 2 and not quite 3 yet. They tell you to “enjoy it” and “sleep because you won’t get much when He arrives” but how in the world do you not be anxious to meet this precious new soul you carry inside? AND how in the world do you “sleep” with so much aching and discomfort?
These encouragements typically come from women who have been in the trenches of motherhood, and know from personal experience. They know how tiring it is to raise a human, but even more than that, they also know how quickly every single moment goes by.
We all know that days of monotony seem to stretch on forever, but weekends and vacations tend to pass in a blink! For all of the tiredness, and discomfort, and pain, and crazy, there is so much joy, and love, and peace, and protectiveness. The moment my first son was born, I felt like life hit the fast forward button, and with every child we have added to our family, it has sped up just a little bit more. Some will say it’s because I am just busier, but I think it is more than that.
Those moments we want to savor, they feel so fast. This life, while my children are little, I want to deeply savor all of the little moments. Every single giggle, smile, twirl, splash, hug and sweet whispers of “I love you mom”.
They say to savor and sleep, because they know what is coming. They know the intense love. They know the exhaustion. They know the passion that carries you through it all as well. Parenting is SO MESSY and SO HARD, but it is so freaking WORTH IT. <3
