I have been slow to finally get this blog posted, but since my sweet friend had her baby boy on Saturday, I think I should go ahead and get these online before I am posting the photos of her little bundle of squish!
Melody had never had maternity photos taken before. This is her 4th and last baby, and when she asked me, I understood immediately. I went through the same exact feelings when I finally decided to have maternity photos taken with 5th. There is something horribly sentimental about knowing that it will be the last time you carry a baby inside of you. It isn’t so much that I enjoy pregnancy (completely opposite in fact) but it was “the beginning of the end”… The start of all of the “lasts”.
The last time I will be pregnant.
The last time I will nurse a child.
The last time I will be a mom of young kids.
The last time I will hold my own child for the first time.
The last time…
When I had our 5th child, I have been hyper aware at how time is slipping away and continued to count all of “the last” moments as my Madie has grown and matured.
Is there excitement for the next chapter? Yes! But that doesn’t change being sentimental and appreciative of the current chapter that is almost over. So, so very much. Amazing new things are on the horizon. <3

I have had the pleasure of working with this sweet family once already for his mama’s maternity photos. It has been so beautiful to see two become three, and they are absolutely head over heals in love. (as they should be <3 )
This little guy showed up a bit early, so we had to shift some things around to make sure to get him documented before he grew out of his “fresh baby” stage, but OH MY GOODNESS, he was just perfection! He slept like a champ and couldn’t have been more precious.
I can’t tell you how much I love it when parents choose my grow with me plan. The experience of getting to track with a family through all the most amazing changes as their baby grows their first year, is such a special thing to be a part of. I can’t wait to watch him grow, and I can’t wait to see his parents love for him get even bigger than it already is.
In a past life, I thought I wanted to specialize in composite photography… Needless to say I ended up taking a *very* different road, but every once in a while, I look at an image and think, “That would be even more beautiful *if*…”. That was the case with this one. I don’t ever promise a composite piece, but when I get a creative itch, I just go with it. ;-)

My FAVORITE way to document a baby bump is to mix it with a family session. I love having the excitement of the rest of the family reflected in the images. I love capturing those moments of everything just as it is before their family dynamics change. I just love watching families grow. (Just a heads up, if we ever are talking about having more kids, my answer will always be “yes” have another one. lol)
I am the oldest of 6 kids, and I have 5 kids of my own. Honestly, it’s crazy y’all, but it’s so sweet, and SO worth it. THEY are worth it.
I’m not talking about financially clothing them in the latest trends and brands, or giving them a full ride through college. I am talking about bringing a new little soul in to this world. Loving them, clothing them (in secondhand clothes if needed) and teaching them to be kind, teaching them to have character and love with their whole heart.
I’m talking about the sweetness of having a large family.
It’s hard. It’s crazy. It’s worth it. <3

I confess, I got quite excited when I saw what she chose to wear when she got out of the car. I mean… She looks like a princess! Seriously, it was so much fun.
When they looked over my location options, they ultimately fell in love with the water, and I am so glad they did. There was something magical about the evening, and I am so glad I was able to capture that in the images.
Thank you for choosing me to document such a special time in your lives. I can’t wait to snuggle your little one soon!!!

They have two littles and she is pregnant with their third. I remember this time of my own life, and it feels like forever ago. How is it that it feels like days will never end, but then I blink and whole years have gone by? Being a parent is tough. Being a military family is tough. This sweet mama wanted to document her baby’s 18 month birthday and get some family photos before their whole world changes yet again with the birth of their 3rd son. I always get so sentimental when I think about the changes that happen when a new little soul is added to a family. There is so much growth and stretching, and all in the most amazing, but sometimes uncomfortable ways. This little guy gets to be the baby of the family for just a little while longer, and that is absolutely something that should be celebrated and documented. <3
Love tight, hug hard and don’t blink.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I absolutely love working with this family!!! I had the pleasure of documenting this little guys first year and now I get to watch him transition to big brother. It feels so weird being this excited and full of curiosity for someone else’s pregnancy. haha. They aren’t finding out the gender, and I am dying to see if their next one has red hair like their mama. <3 Needless to say, I can’t wait for this next year and what it will bring for this sweet family. I promise to be there the whole way, taking photos of their adorable children and croon endlessly over how much they love each other.
We almost rescheduled this session due to rain. I am SOOOO glad we took the gamble. It was worth it. <3

So… The voting has started for the 2019 Shoot & Share Competition, and I am just NOW getting around to blogging how I did LAST year. lol.
I know… I am SO behind. It’s comical really. But things that aren’t needed for survival often get pushed down the priority list. I have just accepted it. ;-)
BUT
I need to document this journey, because something amazing happened last year!
Because in this international competition, where 412,379 images were submitted, I ended up in the top 100 family photographers AND in the top 100 for children’s photography as well!!!
I was seriously freaking out when I found out!!!
So here goes. I submitted 50 images, and out of those 50, 35 made it in the top 30% or above!!! <3

How in the world do you slow time down!?!
It seems like just yesterday that I was taking this little boys newborn photos. <3
That was THREE years ago and now this precious boy is going to be a big brother!
The moments leading up to such a profound and beautiful change are so completely precious. It’s hard to appreciate it sometimes, through the haze of the physical discomfort of pregnancy, but these moments are worth relaxing in to. Every part of our lives shift when we bring a new little soul in to this world. Documenting “right now” before everything changes is such a beautiful way to look back and remember how beautiful every single stage of your growing family felt.

I had the immense privileged of photographing this little ones mama before she was born. It was a gorgeous evening, and her mama was just glowing! Baby bump maternity sessions are such a special time, full of anticipation and expectation. Both of her parents talked excitedly of her arrival, and as I watched her daddy help her mama through the field with care, I knew this little girl would be the centerpiece of their most treasured moments once she arrived.
Children have a way of enhancing and multiplying our love in ways we never knew was possible. We as parents, can do things we never thought we could. I know we are all capable of cleaning up poop, but before you were a parent, did you know you could do it, not only with love, but with excitement??? When my first was born, he struggled with high bilirubin levels and had to stay in the hospital for a bit. After learning that poop was the #1 best way for them to flush it out of their system, my husband and I had a little party with every single diaper. lol
I know… poop… But what about sleepless nights? What about financial sacrifices? What about the fact that your social calendar is turned on its head, and that “mom body” will never be quite the same as it once was?
Having children sounds like a big huge drag… Except that all of those things are just what we see from the outside. These children we bring in to the world, dig out the best parts of us. they inspire us to do all those incredibly hard, yucky, uncomfortable things, and so often, we find that we can do them with JOY!
These little ones grow us parents in to selfless, caring, nurturing people.
… and I honestly can’t think of anything more beautiful than that.

Oh, this precious little boy… Every detail chosen, was full of sentimental history. From His name, all the way down to the blankets used, have deep roots in the family he was born to.
I can’t explain how beautiful it is to watch 2 people, who have fallen in love, so hard and quickly, with a new and completely dependent little soul. The selflessness and strength that rises up, in shadow of unconditional adoration can take your breath away if you are watching for it.
I remember with my first, awake when I should have been sleeping, staring at the little miracle that God had given us. So perfect in every detail. Watching him as his blond eyelashes fluttered with his dreams. In those moments I can remember feeling like I could hardly breathe from the weight of my love for him, and the reality of the 18+ years of responsibility.
It’s overwhelming
It’s exhausting
It’s a love story I never tire of seeing…
