I know this month is supposed to be all about doors and windows. I figured this month would be easy but every idea I came up with seemed so obvious and “done” before. In my search for an original idea I kept on thinking about a shoot I wanted to do but wanted to do outdoors. I finally decided to try it out inside (at a window of course)
Lauren 2 years old and has the most GORGEOUS hair! I can’t even say that these photos do it justice. My Mom still reminds me when she sees her hair that I didn’t have hardly any hair until I was 3! She hasn’t had a hair cut yet and when I think about it getting cut I can’t help but cringe. I desperately wanted to document her gorgeous curls. (Along the way we also played a bit of peekaboo!)

I know I am a bit late this month but we had family visiting from Alaska. When you only get to see your family 1-2 times a year our world tends to stop spinning while they are around :-). This was the first time that my in-laws got to see Noah. My mom came down right after he was born so all that is left is my dad. He is planning on making the trip sometime next month!
Since last month Noah has learned to sit up by himself and he discovered his feet! I also can see some teeth outlines on his bottom gums. I think this month might be the last time I get to capture his gummy smile :-). He is growing up… Sometimes it makes me sad, but it is so much fun watching him discover and learn new things. The lighting wasn’t perfect, but life isn’t perfect and I love that I have this moment in print. I want to always remember how sweet this time in his life was <3

It was a gorgeous day but VERY windy :-) Fortunately for me they were all really good sports about it and we had a fantastic time! It was my first time shooting at this location and I am sure it won’t be the last. These people are one of the most beautiful examples of what a family really is and I was blessed that they let me capture some of what makes their family so special :-)

This months project theme was Song Lyrics. I can’t believe how hard it was to choose what I was going to do this month!!! I finally decided on Splish Splash and I couldn’t be happier :-). Every time I see bath pictures I think “I NEED to do that with my kids!” but with 3 kids, baths are more of a 2 parent event and normally leaves little time to take pictures. Last night we switched up the routine a bit and I was able to catch a few moments that will help me remember all of our bath time memories :-)
Splish Splash I was taking a bath, All about a Saturday night.

Kate was just a few days shy of 2 months old the day we did the photo shoot. I have seen her since then and it seems like she has already changed! It reminds me of how quickly time goes by when they are little. I knew I would like baby photography, but I underestimated how much I would LOVE it!!! Baby Kate was so sweet, and simply perfect <3 I can’t wait to watch her grow!!!
I worked with an Etsy vendor, Sara Grace Accessories and she provided all of the headbands for Kate. She has some gorgeous accessories on her site!

The location for these photos was a dream! Their home sits on the edge of a beautiful lake and the day was perfectly overcast giving us the ideal weather for photos (although it was threatening rain all day) :-) Their oldest son Kenny just joined the Navy and this was going to be his last time home for quite a while.
If that isn’t a great reason to get family pictures taken, I don’t know what is :-)
Kenny, Lori, Kenny Jr., Christopher, Taylor and don’t forget Bailey ;-)

This moths theme is “sweet”. You would think it would be an easy one… (But it wasn’t) I was trying to come up with something original and different and couldn’t seem to think of anything that was quite right. Last week I was trying out a few ideas with Lauren and the tutu I made her for Christmas. I will do a few things differently in the future (such as not using a cream floor drop with a white tutu) but overall I think they turned out really cute! She is ALL GIRL!!!
After we were done I was talking to her and the recycle truck rolled up. Instantly our conversation stopped and she was glued to the window. I was just struck by how simply beautiful she is and how much magic she sees in everyday life :-). These images just seem to reflect the magic she felt in that moment.
The contrast between the two sets of images is so striking to me! the first set is cute but the second set is who she is! It makes me that much more certain that I need to pursue lifestyle photography. It just resonates with me in ways that other types of photography doesn’t.
In our house she is know as our sweetie. She definitely makes life sweeter, there is no doubt about it and we were right on the money when we chose her nick name :-)

This is the reason. The reason I needed to figure out how to use my camera. The reason I love this craft. There are beautiful moments that happen in this house every single day. Moments that slip through the fingers of my memory before I can even find time to write them down. I have 3 kids, 3 beautiful children and I want to remember them just as they are.
I plugged in my SD card this evening to pull off some images that I took today and I was surprised to see these. This memory had already been forgotten. I took them quickly, Noah started to get upset, Lauren needed help in the bathroom (potty training). After quickly snapping a few I set my camera down on the kitchen counter and went back to work. This thing called photography is beautiful. It makes me not just see the precious moments, but forces me to stop and appreciate them. Even after I have forgotten those moments, it then reminds me how beautiful my life is. It’s the moments in the middle of our crazy life that are so sweet, I want to savor and remember them for always.

Most babies are born with grey eyes and until they are around 3 months old you don’t really see much color. I wrapped him up in his blue blanket yesterday and I was struck by how blue his eyes are getting! I decided right then that his beautiful eyes were what I wanted to focus on for this shoot. :-)
My little boy blue :-)
